Alpine Summer at family vacation in Austria

Familiengut mountain pasture in Carinthia

Family-owned since 1810

When the swallows return home after their long journey south, the last April rain showers have fallen, and Carinthia's pristine nature has exploded in all its beauty, the cows in our open stables start getting restless. Instinctively they know that it is time for their big journey. In the valley, brass band music plays in honour of the first of May and then the big day finally arrives:
Following centuries'-old tradition, the entire family helps when our cows and bulls are ceremoniously taken up to the alpine pastures in early summer.
Our alp has been family-owned since 1810 and is used for cattle farming and forestry. From May to September, our happy free-range animals enjoy the spicy alpine herbs, mountain air, and peace and quiet surrounded by the majestic mountains.

Summer at the farm

But our farm isn't completely empty in summer. Our gentle bunnies, playful guinea pigs, cuddly miniature ponies, soft alpacas and funny goats love having company, being petted and munching on freshly-picked dandelions.
Thus we can also guarantee a family holiday of the special kind in the Carinthian Alpine Summer.

Horses and ponies

All children love our sweet-tempered, patient ponies. The bond between horse and rider is strengthened with combing, brushing and petting - meaning nothing stands between you and a leisurely ride on winding forest trails, a wild gallop through the fields or some practice riding at the farm's own indoor riding hall.

If you are dreaming of a family vacaation at an equestrian farm, you will absolutely love staying at the Familiengut Burgstaller.
